Thanks to the support of the European Union, about 1000 pupils and teachers of "Constantin Spătaru" and "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceums from Leova and Basarabeasca towns will benefit, starting with 2021, from improved educational conditions and a comfortable study environment. This is to happen as a result of the implementation, in the respective institutions, of two major investment projects, with a total value of about 73 million lei, related to the Energy Efficiency field.

In Leova, the energy efficiency measures are carried out within the investment project on "Increasing energy efficiency of "Constantin Spătaru" Theoretical Lyceum in Leova town", worth about 53 million lei, implemented by the Regional Development Agency South, with the support of the European Union and the financial contribution allocated by Leova City Hall.

In Basarabeasca, the energy efficiency measures are being implemented within the project on "Increasing energy efficiency of "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum in Basarabeasca town", totaling about 20 million lei, also managed by RDA South.

Both investment measures are funded by the European Union in cooperation with the project "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova", which is implemented by GIZ Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Currently, the buildings of "Constantin Spătaru" and "Matei Basarab"Theoretical Lyceums in the towns of Leova and Basarabeasca are under reconstruction, RDA South specialists taking care to monitor, weekly, the quality and progress of the works.

The energy efficiency of the targeted educational buildings includes the execution of extensive works of thermal insulation of the facades and plinths of the building, rehabilitation of roofs, interior finishing of the walls, installation of modern electricity and ventilation systems, and also the supply with hot and cold water at the taps of the institutions.

Moreover, at the moment, construction works of sanitary nodes are being carried out inside the above-mentioned institutions and in the spring photovoltaic panels will be installed as an alternative energy source.

As a result of the energy efficiency measures undertaken, it is projected that annually the standard energy consumption in the nominated educational institutions will be reduced by an estimated 30% and the annual standard CO2 emissions will be reduced.

At the same time, these two educational institutions in the Southern Development Region will significantly improve their appearance on the inside and outside, as a result of the reconstruction, re-equipment and essential modernization of classrooms, recreation and leisure spaces, as well as the related public utility infrastructure.
