Thanks to the support of the EU, almost 300 pupils and teachers of "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum from Basarabeasca town will benefit from improved education conditions

The energy efficiency of the building of "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum from Basarabeasca town is increased within a project financed by the European Union and implemented by the Regional Development Agency South. Currently, construction works of the roof of the building, ventilation and electricity systems, thermal insulation works of the building base and construction of sanitary nodes inside the institution are being carried out here.

Previously, the replacement of the windows, the installation and commissioning of the heating system have been completed here. So, nowadays, when winter has practically come to its senses and the temperatures have dropped significantly, the pupils who study and the teachers who carry out their teaching activity at "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum have received heat.

The specialists of the Integrated Project Management and Monitoring and Evaluation sections within the Regional Development Agency (RDA) South, who recently undertook a working visit to Basarabeasca to monitor the progress of the works within the investment project "Increasing energy efficiency of "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum in Basarabeasca town", were able to convince themselves of this.

The working parties involved in the implementation of the project, including the site manager and the technical supervisor, participated in the working visit. At the beginning, the classrooms in the right wing of the high school building were visited, where ventilation and construction of sanitary nodes are currently being carried out.

Also, the employees of RDA South visited the thermal point in the basement of the building, after which the roof that is under capital reconstruction and the high school building on the outside have been inspected.

The contractor is to carry out, in the next period, works of thermal insulation of the plinth on the facade behind the high school, as well as insulation of the walls of the building, hot and cold water supply works to the taps inside the institution.

In spring 2021, within "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum from Basarabeasca town, photovoltaic panels will be installed as an alternative energy source.

The energy efficiency measures, which are implemented within "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum, will ensure optimal conditions for the professional activity of the staff and the studies of pupils from several localities of Basarabeasca rayon. Thus, pupils, teachers and employees of this institution will benefit from increased thermal comfort, hot and cold water supply to the taps inside the schools, improved ventilation in the study rooms, etc.

As a result of the energy efficiency measures taken, it is projected that, on an annual basis, the estimated energy consumption in the energy-efficient educational institution will be reduced by an estimated 30% and the annual standardized CO2 emissions will be reduced.

The investment measure "Increasing energy efficiency of "Matei Basarab" Theoretical Lyceum from Basarabeasca town" is funded by the European Union in cooperation with the project "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova", which is implemented by GIZ Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment and financially supported by the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
