Cahul Municipality and Stefan Voda Town Benefit from Technical Support in Developing Urban Revitalization Programs

The Cahul municipality and Stefan Voda town will benefit from technical support in developing Urban Revitalization Programs. Support will be provided within the "Support for the Administration of the Republic of Moldova in the Implementation of the National Strategy for Regional Development for the 2016-2020 years through Integrated Urban and Sustainable Development"  project, implemented by the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development of Poland in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environmental of the Republic of Moldova and the Representation of Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

The Cahul and Stefan Voda mayoralties won the contest for implementing measures to support urban development in the region, organized by the Regional Development Agency South.

The contest took place in 26.04.2019-14.05.2019 period. The potential beneficiaries were all the mayoralties of the towns/municipalities from the Development Region South, which don't have Urban Revitalization Programs, consider the urban revitalization as a priority for local development and intends to develop Urban Revitalization Programs during the 2019 year.

The contest aimed to support, including by facilitating the process of developing Urban Revitalization Programs, the implementation of urban revitalization tools in selected towns/municipalities, based on objective and transparent criteria.

Following the organized contest, three application forms were submitted at the RDA South office, completed for three entities: Cahul municipality, Ştefan Voda and Tvardita town.

The received dossiers were evaluated by a committee, based on an evaluation scale, according to which, the following criteria have been considered:

1. Motivation and desire to start the urban revitalization process.

2. Experience in elaboration and implementation projects.

3. Administrative and financial capacity for program elaboration and implementation.

3. The existence at the local level of the medium-term strategic planning and urban planning documents, relevant to the urban revitalization process.

5. The existence of the General Urban Plan.

Following the evaluation of the forms, the winners - technical support beneficiaries in the elaboration of Urban Revitalization Programs within the "Support for the Administration of the Republic of Moldova in the Implementation of the National Strategy for Regional Development for the 2016-2020 years through Integrated Urban and Sustainable Development" project from the Development Region South are the Cahul municipality and Stefan Voda town.

The Urban Revitalization targets less-favored urban areas by a cooperative effort of the local public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders (e.g. the business sector, etc.) and with the citizens, to improve living conditions, increase the quality of the environment and the social climate and strengthen the local economy. Thus, in 2018, several Moldovan towns/municipalities/cities, including Causeni and Cimislia from the Development Region South, benefited from technical assistance in elaborating the URP.
