More than 64,000 citizens from the Development Region South will benefit from water supply and sewerage modern conditions. At the same time, two schools from Leova and Basarabeasca districts will benefit from energy efficiency projects due to the European Union support. In this respect, the European Union will provide to the Republic of Moldova about 11.60 million euro.

7.3 million EUR out of 11.60 million EUR are directed to the implementation of three water supply and sewerage projects in Leova and Cahul districts. 3.3 million EUR goes to two energy efficiency projects from Leova and Basarabeasca towns.

The Energy efficiency measures to be implemented in schools, will provide optimal conditions for staff and students in several localities. Referring to water supply and sanitation measures, the main expected outcomes are to improve the infrastructure of water services and to increase the population connection rate. All these measures will eventually contribute to the elimination of rural as well as urban disparities.

The total budget of the "Construction of Water Supply and Sewerage and Energy Efficiency Infrastructure in Public Buildings" project is about 43 million EUR, financed by the European Union, and it is expected to be implemented by the end of 2020.

This project is executed in co-operation with "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova" (MLPS) project, which is implemented by the German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of the Republic of Moldova and financially supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Government of Sweden, Government of Romania and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
