Between October 19-23 this year, the Republic of Moldova marks the European Green Week 2020. The topic of the current year is nature, biodiversity and the European Green Pact, with the aim of highlighting the contribution of biodiversity to economic development, societal health, as well as fostering sustainable recovery. Also, the basic topic is an opportunity to rethink man's relationship with nature, to highlight unsustainable human activities that lead to biodiversity loss and cause ecological crisis, what the implications for our economy and society are and how this could be changed.

In this context, during the EU Green Week it will be examined how a number of EU policies, including the European Green Pact, can help protect, restore and sustainably manage nature in the Republic of Moldova, leaving room for recovery and prosperity.

At the same time, this year's European Green Week 2020 will also act as an important stage in the preparation of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, planned for 2021, where world leaders will adopt a 10-year new action plan for biodiversity - a new global deal for humans and nature.

In addition to the Lisbon and Brussels summits, the program will also include a series of partner events and actions taking place across Europe, and stakeholders and the general public are encouraged to get involved "practically" by participating in a series of online and socializing activities.

In the Republic of Moldova between October 19-23, a national communication and information campaign is planned for the conservation of biodiversity and the environment regarding the European Green Week and the European Green Pact for Moldova.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, the official opening of European Green Week 2020 took place today, October 19, 2020, in Lisbon - European Green Capital 2020. International scientists and senior officials met in a one-day conference to discuss current and future trends in biodiversity and to emphasize its importance to society and the economy. They assessed the role it can play in supporting post-pandemic recovery, creating new jobs and contributing to sustainable development. The conference highlighted EU policies such as the European Green Pact and their role in protecting and restoring nature.
