There has been a 10 year struggle for Salt Lake. The idea to rehabilitate Salt Lake appeared in 2000, and for 10 years the Cahul authorities have sought solutions. In 2010, with the opening of the first call for proposals, the project was submitted for funding to the National Fund for Regional Development and accepted for funding in 2011. The redevelopment work began in May of 2012  and the authorities aim to attract tourists from home and abroad. This project was the first step, and in time, will provide more diverse tourist opportunities. The project provides an infrastructure for the regional development of recreational tourism in the South Development Region by balancing economic growth and sustainability through the promotion of rehabilitation, leisure and recreation in Salt Lake, Cahul. National and international tours will be integrated into the region.The Salty Lake, offers unique natural features with the possibilities for rehabilitation and treatment of diseases for the musculoskeletal system, central nervous system, and blood system. The project is financed from the National Fund for Regional Development, with a total cost of 9 676 452 lei, and has a duration of 10 months.
