First meeting of the working group on the updating of the Water Supply and Sewerage Action Plan of Cahul District for 2018 - 2023 years

On March 13, at Cahul District Council took place the first meeting of the working group on the updating of the Water Supply and Sewerage Action Plan of Cahul District for 2018 - 2023 years. This one is to be out within the "Implementation measures to modernize the local public services in the field of water supply and sewerage in Cahul district " project, co-funded by German Federal Enterprise for International Cooperation (GIZ) Moldova with EU support.

The meeting was attended by Mr Ion Groza, the president of Cahul district; representatives of the Cahul District Council; District Council members; mayors from Cahul district; members of the working group, and GIZ experts: Mr Sergiu Pleșca, the regional consultant of the GIZ; Mrs Silvia Strelciuc, GIZ national expert in strategic planning; Mr Vitalie Chernomoret, GIZ national expert in technical analysis; Mr Anatol Moldovanu, "IDIS Viitorul" expert.

Updating the water supply and sanitation component of the Socio-Economic Development Strategy of the Cahul District aims to provide a clear orientation of the field of water supply and sewerage development, in order to provide the access of population to quantitative and qualitative services. During the meeting the members of the working group were informed about the results achieved during the planning period 2012 - 2017, which concern such areas as: intercommunity cooperation, regionalization of WSS services, institutional aspects and investment measures implemented in the district, discussing and sharing the encountered problems and challenges, good practices and learned lessons.

The process of updating WSS Action Plan for 2018-2023 years will be carried out in two stages: the I Stage - the evaluation of the plan during the programming period 2012-2017, its quality, implementation level and the elaboration of improvement recommendations; the II Stage - the elaboration of the new Action Plan, organization of consultations and public hearings and approval of the Action Plan by the District Council.

At the meeting, the President of Cahul district, Mr Ion Groza, highlighted the importance of implementing measures to improve the access of population to quality drinking water services, the need to involve all the stakeholders in this process. He has also mentioned the importance of communicating and raising awareness among the population, regarding ecological and health aspects on quality of consumed water, as well as the need of adequate, participatory strategic programming in attracting national and foreign finances for the development of this sector
