Meeting of the CO-WANDA project Steering Committee, 26-27 February, 2013 Budapest

A group of representatives from the regional development agency (South ADR), headed by the Director of the institution Maria Culeșov, participated on February 26-27 in Budapest, Hungary, at the meeting of the project Steering Committee CO-WANDA (Convention for waste management for inland navigation on the Danube). ADR is one of 9 partners from 11 countries that border the Danube. The project was launched in October 2012 and was initiated in order to facilitate the elaboration of an International Convention for the management of waste generated by ships on the Danube.

Regional development agency South is one of the 9 partners of the project and has activities within work package 3 and 5 of the 5 packages of the project. The activities carried out by the Agency will include the development of Strategies and information that will be coordinated with the international model for the implementation of the convention for waste management for inland navigation on the Danube. Developing the strategy will involve national experts in the field of water protection and will take into account the model developed at the international level.

Equally, it will implement the pilot actions for collecting ship-generated wastes in various countries bordering the Danube. These will be available free of charge to ships, so as to test the existing system's proposed solutions for funding and use of river information services RIS.

In the first day a session of the project Steering Committee was subjected to a vote of the Visual Identity Manual. Achievements were presented to obtain the framework of the project by all partners as well as the future steps to be taken. The second day was devoted to the case studies, especially those of the Rhine region, the region of the Sava, and the proposals of European experts in the field.

The program Funded is through the South East Europe Transnational Cooperation Project ' (Convention for Waste Management for Inland Navigation on the Danube). CO-WANDA "was developed by 11 partners from 9 countries that border the Danube. The project started on 1 October 2012 and will be complete at the end of September 2014.

The next visit of the project by the representatives of the South ADR will be in April 2013. The representatives will visit the Rhine Region to study and to observe their successful practices.
