The Opportunities of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region - the Subject of a Regional Conference Organized by the RDA South in Cimișlia

On May 28, 2018, the Regional Development Agency South, held in Cimișlia a Regional Conference named "Opportunities of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region", financially supported by the Austrian Development Agency.

The representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, the Ministry of Investment and Economic Development of the Republic of Poland, the Regional Development Agency South, the Austrian Development Agency, the Local Public Authorities, the business and NGO representatives from the Development Region South were present at the event.

On behalf of the central authority, Mr Igor Malai, the head of the Department for Regional Development Policy from the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, welcomed the participants mentioning the importance of such activities in strengthening coordination capacities and promoting the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) in the Republic of Moldova. 

Mrs Maria Culeşov, the director of the RDA South, thanked those who were interested to participate at the UESDR conference. "This activity organized by the RDA South jointly with MARDE and ADA, contributes to a greater openness for the regional development actors in the Region South of the Republic of Moldova of the opportunities that EUSRD could offer to the countries participating at this European initiative " said Mrs Maria Culeşov.

The event aimed to discuss topical issues, such as: the opportunities and challenges faced by the Republic of Moldova in the process of promoting the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region, the experiences of the projects developed within the EUSDR, including in the European Economic Area states and sustainable energy as the priority area for EUSDR.

 In the second part of the conference, Mr Igor Malai, the MARDE representative, presented the "Guidelines for Urban Renewal in the Republic of Moldova", a document that aims to support the cities from the country in drafting the Urban Renewal Programs. Then, there was a session of questions and answers on this topic of public consultations.

We mention that the Republic of Moldova is a part of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region since 2010. The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment is the coordinator of its implementation and promotion in our country. The main goal of the ” Danube connects” project, financially supported by Austrian Development Agency (ADA), from Austrian Development Cooperation funds, is to strengthen the capacity in coordinating and promoting EUSDR in the Republic of Moldova, including cross-border and transnational programs.
