The German delegation which negotiated the official external assistance for Moldova visited Cahul

On October 16, 2013, the delegation of the German Government which negotiated the establishment of financial and technical support that will benefit from the Republic of Moldova in 2014, visited Cahul.

The composition of the delegation consisted of:

     The event was attended by General Director for Regional Development and Ministry of Regional Development and Construction, Valerian Bânzaru, and Director of the South Regional Development Agency, Maria Culeșov.

The 10 guests had a meeting with the President of the Regional District in Cahul - Avram Micinschi, after having visited the municipal enterprises “Apa-Canal Cahul”. They were guided by the town's Mayor, Petru Burlacu, and company Director, Vasile Zagaevschi.  The municipal enterprises benefited in 2013 from the large German  investment. Thus, the company underwent repairs worth 580 thousand lei. At the same time, to optimize the enterprise's operational capabilities, specialized machines were procured for over one thousand lei in the event of water damage, sewage etc. and was granted financial for support throughout the project "Modernization of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation.

“Apa -Canal  Cahul” was established in 1970 and at this point has 45000 consumers. The company has all chances to become a genuine service and operator to serve not only the city of Cahul, but also neighboring villages.

In 2014, with funds allocated by the German Ministry for Federal Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), a water treatment plant will be rehabilitated at the Prut River. This investment will ensured the necessary amount of water for the entire district for 10-15 years. Expanding the number of consumers is a goal of regional socio-economic development strategy.

Then the German delegation visited the village, where more than 3,700 people had been provided with drinking water and served by the municipal enterprises “Apa-Canal Cahul”. The construction of the aqueduct took place within the framework of the project with GIZ Modernization of Local Public Services in Republic of Moldova, out of funds provided by the Romanian Government.

In 2014, from funds granted by GIZ, the residents of Roșu will be connected to the sewage system of the city of Cahul.

All of these investment measures are supported by the German Government and are implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Regional Development and Construction. The procurement and the smooth operation of the project are provided by the South Regional Development Agency.

The Moldovan-German negotiations took place on 15 October. Also, on 16 October, the members of the delegation had a meeting with the President of the Administrative-Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, Mihai Formuzal. In GAGAUZIA they visited the village of Beșalma. It was here that the German Bank for Reconstruction had awarded a grant and a water supply system was built. 

Cooperation between the Government of Germany and the Government of the Republic of Moldova began in 1994. Since then, there have been many important projects developed which are aimed to facilitate the process of transition from a planned economy to an open market.
